Rachel J Carter is a novel and short story author from Portsmouth, England, where she lives with her husband and daughter as well as Alfie Dog, Lizardy McLizardface, Dave the Stormtrooper and several dragons that other people insist they can’t see. She writes chapter books and middle grade fiction and particularly enjoys fantasy adventure stories, and has also published a number of short stories for children and adults.

After studying a degree in English Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Portsmouth, Rachel got the writing bug and went on to do an MA in Writing for Children at the University of Winchester. She is currently back at Portsmouth undertaking a PhD exploring her writing processes as an author with Bipolar Disorder.

Rachel is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and enjoys attending their events as well as other writing festivals and retreats. When Rachel is not writing or studying, she enjoys running marathons dressed in silly costumes for her two favourite charities, MIND Mental Health and Dogs Trust.
